Ward 11 and the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (BMTU)
Ward 11 Singleton Hospital is a 25 bed haematology/oncology ward. This busy clinical area also houses the Haematology Day Unit and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. The inpatients are usually receiving continuous chemotherapy or are recovering from intensive treatments.
Over the last decade, due to both patient demand and improved Day Unit facilities, an increasing number of patients receive their chemotherapy or regular blood transfusion as a day patient, thus reducing the stress and associated problems of regular hospital visits.
The haematology department strives to provide holistic care for patients with blood disorders, together with their families and loved ones, in a friendly and supportive environment. The department works to provide professional care for patients with acute, chronic and palliative diseases.

Haematology Department
The haematology department consists of 4 areas:
- The Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (BMTU)
- Inpatient area
- The Haematology day unit
- The Haemophilia Centre
The BMTU, inpatient beds and the day unit are situated on ward 11 and comprise 25 beds. The haemophilia centre is located on the ground floor.

BMTU
The BMTU consists of a two-bedded laminar air flow unit, with en-suite facilities for autologous bone marrow transplants.
