David Coates’ Brutal Challenge
David Coates is a keen athlete and has used this passion to challenge himself and also raise money for LLMF.
He had previously competed and fundraised for us at Tenby’s Iron Man (a long-distance triathlon) but when he told us of his next challenge, we could not imagine how tough it would be.
The Double Brutal Extreme Triathlon took place at Llyn Padarn, Caernarfon, North Wales last September 2024 is known as one of the world’s toughest triathlons.
4.8 miles of lake swimming! 232 miles of road cycling with 5,000m climbing! Then, when you think your legs can’t do more, 52 miles of trail running around a hilly lake course with over 3000m of climbing on the leg run! All without a break!
There are very few athletes that could even attempt this event. For David it was by far his toughest physical challenge to date, but he wanted to show everyone what is possible and to raise some money for us at the same time.
LLMF is important to David as both his Mum & Dad Marilyn and John were helped when they were both treated Singleton’s hospital haematology department.
We are so amazed that David completed this monster of a challenge and also raised a huge amount of money for LLMF. We say a huge “Congratulations” and thank you to David and all his supporters and sponsors for making this happen. We are very grateful.
